Can shampoo be used as body wash?

It can be used occasionally. Those who have stayed in hotels have probably encountered this: some hotels provide guests with two-in-one bath products, meaning you can wash your hair and shower at the same time. However, these products are generally very alkaline, so while they have excellent cleaning power, effectively removing oil from the scalp and cleansing dirt from the body, alkaline cleansers should not be used long-term, otherwise it can cause dry skin and even flaking. It's best to choose mildly acidic bath products, as the skin's pH is slightly acidic, and a pH close to this is best for gentle care.

Why can't shampoo be used as body wash?

Theoretically, washing hair and showering both remove dirt and excess oil, so from a cleaning perspective, they can be used interchangeably. To exaggerate a bit, you can even use a bar of soap or dish soap to wash your hair and shower.

But why don't we use soap or dish soap?

Similar to the theory of needs, it's because beyond the basic need of getting clean, we have higher-level needs. For example, when washing our hair, we want it to be less prone to split ends; when showering, we might want our skin to be smoother or whiter (although the whitening claims of shower gel are completely unreliable, but we won't elaborate here). Therefore, cosmetic companies have embarked on massive product development. While some concepts or functions may be exaggerated in advertisements, the ingredients and concentrations of different products will produce varying effects.

For example, compared to shower gel, shampoo usually contains more types and amounts of lubricating or anti-static ingredients. This reduces friction on the hair during washing, thus reducing split ends.

The correct way to use shampoo:

1. Lather shampoo in your palms like you would facial cleanser to ensure it reaches the top of your head. If it's difficult to lather, add a few drops of water and rub quickly.

2. Wash your hair from top to bottom; this will make it smoother.

3. When using conditioner, avoid contact with the scalp. 4. This hair conditioner can be used like a spa treatment. Soak your hair in the water for 3-5 minutes, then rinse. The smoothing effect can last until the next shampoo.

5. Don't shampoo too frequently; once every 3 days is best.
